H2GLASS in the Spirit of Hydrogen Week: Advancing Green Hydrogen in Industry
As events across Germany and Europe celebrate Woche des Wasserstoffs (Hydrogen Week) this week, we are reminded of the growing momentum behind hydrogen technologies as a cornerstone of the energy transition. From transport and heating to heavy industry, green hydrogen is increasingly recognised as a vital solution for decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors.
At H2GLASS, we are proud to contribute to this transformation by focusing on one of the most energy-intensive industries: glass manufacturing. Our project aims to enable the full substitution of natural gas with green hydrogen in glass production processes — a shift that could drastically reduce CO₂ emissions and help the sector align with European climate goals.
The use of hydrogen in high-temperature furnaces presents both technical and operational challenges. H2GLASS addresses these through cutting-edge research, system integration, and real-world testing at five industrial demonstrators and one replicability demonstrator across Europe.
Hydrogen Week highlights the diverse applications of this versatile energy carrier. Within that diversity, H2GLASS offers a compelling case for hydrogen’s role in clean industry, showcasing how cross-sector collaboration and innovation can pave the way toward a more sustainable future.
