Raising Awareness, Building Trust: How H2GLASS Engages the Public on Hydrogen Technologies
March 5, 2026 | Blogs | News
As hydrogen technologies move from research labs into real industrial settings, social acceptance becomes just as important as technical performance. For hydrogen to play a meaningful role in decarbonising energy‑intensive industries like glass production, the public needs to understand what hydrogen is, how it works, and why it matters.
That’s why awareness‑raising is a core part of the H2GLASS mission. Beyond developing cutting‑edge hydrogen solutions for glass furnaces, the project is actively engaging citizens, students, and local communities across Europe. Our goal: increase understanding of hydrogen technologies, address misconceptions, and build long‑term societal support for a climate‑neutral future.
Inspiring the Next Generation: School Visits
Young people will shape tomorrow’s energy landscape, so involving them early is essential.
H2GLASS has already conducted two school visits where partners introduced students to hydrogen production, hydrogen safety, and its role in decarbonising industries like glass manufacturing. Through presentations, discussions, and activities, students were able to ask questions, explore the science behind H2GLASS, and see how European innovation is driving the energy transition. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive,
Bringing Hydrogen Closer to Communities: Public Events and Fairs
Beyond schools, H2GLASS regularly participates in public events to spark broader conversations around hydrogen and industry decarbonisation.
At these events, ranging from energy fairs to open days at project partner sites, visitors can:
- learn how green hydrogen is produced,
- explore the advantages and challenges of using hydrogen in industrial processes,
- see how hydrogen fits into a circular, climate‑neutral economy,
- discover how glass manufacturers are preparing for a sustainable future.
These interactions help demystify hydrogen, break down fears, and show that hydrogen is not an abstract technology but a practical, safe, and increasingly accessible energy carrier.
Why Social Acceptance Matters
For industry transformation to succeed, technological innovation must go hand in hand with public trust. Social acceptance influences political decision‑making, funding opportunities, regional deployment, and community support for new infrastructure.
By opening doors, engaging directly with society, and offering transparent communication, H2GLASS is helping to build that foundation of trust.
Looking Ahead
As the project continues its demonstrations across Europe, H2GLASS will expand its outreach, connecting with even more activities for children, citizens, and stakeholders. The goal is clear: create an informed, motivated, and supportive society that embraces hydrogen as a key part of Europe’s sustainable future.
